“medusa marrow” is a work that starts from exploring the possibilities of configuring the same material, cotton fabric, in its different resistances and densities.
The fabric is the basis for the unfolding of all bodies, each one unique in its constitution and presence. They are hybrid bodies that refer to different kingdoms and corporeality and are all suspended by a wooden rod. The rod as a supporting structure but also symbolic, like the needle that goes through the fabric, like the line that draws the path, like life, a single essence, that crosses and supports bodies in their multiplicity.
The bodies are in line, side by side, creating relationships between them, both structural and volumetric and symbolic and poetic. They are light, malleable and at the same time bring the rigidity typical of matter.
It is a work that talks about process, the procedural possibilities of doing and also the possibilities of mutation and metamorphosis of bodies.
The title of the work is a play on words and also a crossing of ideas. The spinal cord is like this cord that crosses the spinal canal, this vital structure that, when injured, can cause paralysis.
Medusa as this hybrid being, woman and snake, a metamorphic being that generates metamorphosis, that transforms flesh into stone. this mythological symbol so strongly associated with women and the various castrations suffered over time. The medusa is the spark at the beginning, and the meandering of this work. It is present in each fold of fabric that occurs and transforms throughout the process of making
